Frequently Asked Questions
What should we wear?
You should wear whatever you already own, love and feel most comfortable in. That’s right, if it isn’t comfy, don’t wear it! Your kids will be miserable if they aren’t comfortable and we all know that if the kids aren’t happy, the parents won’t be either! The only thing I would advise against is neon or bright red or green colored shirts because they can cast an unflattering color shadow onto the skin.
Does our house need to be clean for an in-home session?
If having a clean house was a prerequisite to taking photos, I would have to choose another profession :-) My opinion is messy homes are that way for a reason (hello, kids!) and it makes the photos more authentic, fun and intriguing. A picked up house is nice for a session, but it doesn’t need to be deep cleaned. Someday there won’t be sticky little fingerprints on your refrigerator or loved on toys strewn about the house. Trust me, you’ll miss it all when it’s gone and cling to the memories of when your babes were small.
What if my kids don't behave?
Actually, a better question is: What if the kids do behave? When children are on their “best behavior,” chances are they aren’t acting like their normal, spunky, unfiltered selves. Storytelling photography is all about documenting and owning your family’s truth. I’ve found that when children - and grown-ups - have the space to truly be themselves, the images show the true magic of real life.
What should we do during our session?
Just be yourself! If we are in your home, do the things you would normally do there. Play with your kids, make dinner, do laundry, etc. The main thing is that you’re interacting with your loved ones. This is especially true if we’re on location somewhere. If dad is hanging out 50 feet away from everyone else, chances are he’s not going to be in a lot of the images.
What if I want a traditional family portrait?
Just let me know if that is something important to you, and I'll make sure we get everyone in the frame for some more traditional family portraits.
Do you offer payment plans?
Well heck yes I do! Normally I require a 50% non-refundable deposit due at booking to reserve your session date, and the remaining balance is due one week before your session. I WANT to document your story so if that isn’t possible for you, let me know and we can work out a detailed payment plan that best fits your budget.
