What to wear for your personal brand session | Oklahoma Brand Photographer

It’s the question I get asked most when someone books a personal brand session with me. “What should I wear??” It’s probably the hardest decision of any photo session really! My first piece of advice to everyone is to choose clothes that you feel comfortable in and that are authentic to who you are. If you don’t wear blazers and slacks then don’t think you need to wear them for your brand session just because you saw images like that on Pinterest.

My second piece of advice is to wear clothes that fit well. If a button up shirt gaps at the bust, it’s not a good option. One thing you can do is try on an outfit and take a photo of yourself in it. Do you like the way it looks on you in the photo? Very often things look different in the mirror than they do in a photo.

A good place to start is your own closet. Do you have any pieces that you really like? A favorite sweater, pants that fit amazing and look fabulous on you.. build on what you already have and don’t think you need to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe for your brand photoshoot.

Colors

Neutral colors photograph well and go with lots of different locations. Think about your brand color palette and mix in the more bold colors using accessories and pieces like blazers, jackets, or tops that can easily be switched out. If we’ll be doing your brand shoot in a colorful location, then definitely choose colors that will coordinate well with the location.

Layering

Layering is the number one way to get the most variety and looks in your brand photos. Start with pants that’ll go well with a few different tops. Next add a shirt that will photograph well on it’s own, with necklaces and accessories (maybe a scarf), and can easily be worn under a jacket or sweater.

Accessories

Jeans and a simple top/fitted tee can be transformed into a completely different outfit by adding necklaces, other jewelry, and a different pair of shoes. You can go from casual to dressed up in a matter of minutes! Thow on a jacket or blazer and bam, we have a third outfit. If you’re a hat person, that’s a great accessory to add for a different look.

Optional…

Text me a photo of each outfit you’re considering if you’d like my opinion. When in doubt, just ask me!!

Bring more options than you think you’ll need if you’re still not sure. We can always change it up last minute.
