River. My third boy. My baby boy. You made our family complete.

After two previous emotionally hard cesarean births, you made my peaceful home birth dream come true. You slid into our family like you were always meant to be here and you have never stopped bringing joy and entertainment to our lives.

Even though you’re incredibly shy, people all the time comment on how good your energy is. You’ve got a vibe that’s enviable.

You walk around in your own little world, so much so that we call you our little space cadet. You ask the best, most thoughtful questions about deep things I’ve never thought about before and I love that about you.

You’ve been my muse since you were born and I adore being creative with you.

You’ll be twelve this year and you’ll start junior high which feels totally insane to say because it seems like yesterday when I was wearing you in a sling and nursing you to sleep.

Even in our hardest moments, when we’re butting heads like parents and children do, I’m grateful beyond words to be you mother. I love you with all my heart.

Artifact motherhood is a collaboration of artists/mothers from around the world. Sharing stories of the joys and struggles of our journey. Our hopes and dreams for our children. With little nuggets of wisdom here and there. These are more than photographs with dates written on the back. These are the artifact we are leaving behind for children and the generations to come.
