It’s no secret that in-home documentary family sessions are my absolute favorite. I get it though, not all of the Oklahoma families that I work with feel like their home is photo session worthy. Or maybe they just don’t feel comfortable inviting a photographer into their personal space. Either way, there’s a way to get the same cozy in-home vibe in a photography studio, or at least there is in my Norman, OK studio.

Photography isn’t just about capturing the happy moments. It’s about holding on to memories. It’s a documentation of life and in a way the acknowledgement of inevitable death. There is beauty in the pain of loving something so deeply that it hurts to let go. There is beauty in sadness.

Little kids are my favorite subjects to photograph, hands down, because they are unapologetically themselves and I’m so here for it. I want to share how I work with young children during family sessions. My hope is that once you understand my process, you’ll also understand that you do not have to get frustrated with your kids during our session if you think they aren’t doing what they “should” be doing.
